Fashion Week may be in full swing, trends from the past Spring / Summer 2020 shows are slowly emerging as we slowly come closer and closer to spring. One of the latest trends that currently seems to be developing is one that is slowly conquering Instagram. O oversized collars draw attention and emerge into a new trend that the fashion crowd doesn’t seem to get enough of.
Oversized collar trend
The trend was sparked during the presentations of the new Spring / Summer 2020 collections when many a fashion house suddenly seemed to focus on blouses with an oversized collar. During the presentation of Chanel’s Couture Spring 2020 show, models walked the runway with collars inspired by old orphanage costumes, worn in conjunction with the fashion house’s signature tweed jackets.
Hedi Slimane was also inspired by lace collars at French fashion house Celine. Models stormed the runway in bold rock-esque looks that were balanced with subtle white lace collar detailing. Another fashion house that included the blouse collar in its latest collection was the Danish brand Ganni. During the presentation of their Autumn / Winter 2020 collection the striking collar detail was repeated in designs such as blouses and dresses, as well as coats and jackets.
Many influencers seem to have noticed the trend and therefore appear several times in looks with a striking collar. Street style star Pernille Teisbeik was inspired by the Chanel show and created her own look. The collar gives a quirky touch to her outfit and provides a refreshing and funky whole in combination with the faux leather pants and colorful Bottega Veneta heels.
Man Repellers Leandra Medine also spotted the micro trend and tried it out. She opts for a top from the American label Sea New York and shows how you can style this old-school trend in 2020 in a modern way. The same goes for the Spanish influencer Blanca Miró, who brightens up the streets in a colorful variant with lace collar detail by Ganni.
All of our Little Women- based fashion fantasies come alive with this new yet subtle trend. Enough ways to wear the design, these street style stars show. Be inspired by some selected blouses with an oversized collar and you are – completely on-trend – ready for spring.
