Our family has more of an unconventional way of celebrating the holidays. We choose a weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas that works for all of us, and we rotate who hosts every year, with each individual family taking a turn.
We do this because we are scattered around the country, and it is very expensive to travel over the actual holidays. With gifts and food and everything else that comes with it, it helps cut down on costs. So it’s basically like a family reunion, just holiday themed.
Our family isn’t enormous; it comes down to about 6 families total, which is approximately 35-40 people. So while it isn’t necessary for us to rent a place out for the event or cater it, it’s still a lot of people to cook for. Additionally, some of those people are babies and toddlers who won’t eat much anyway.
One thing we all learned from the get-go when we began this tradition was that it was definitely too much work to do everything the old fashioned way. Our food processors are what got us through every time.
This year it was my turn to host, and seeing as I hadn’t used my food processor since Easter and we were a couple of days into November, I figured it would be wise to just double check and make sure it was all intact and in working order. Well, guess what? The chopping blade was nowhere to be found.
This was really odd to me and I have no idea how it happened, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. Thank goodness I checked, because I had just enough time to figure out a solution.
I scoured the Internet and found KitchenWorksUSA, where I was able to find authentic Cuisinart 14 cup food processor parts. I ordered the replacement blade that I needed, and a couple of other blades just in case anymore went missing. They were set to arrive well before the event took place.
My blade arrived, and just to be safe I did a test run with it, just in case. Everything worked perfectly, just as I suspected it would. I was so grateful that I found a way to deal with this situation.
A couple of days prior to the big event, family started to arrive. One of the things that is nice is that we all work in the prep on the days leading to the meal. It’s a nice way for us all to bond before things get too hectic.
When the day of our big dinner arrived, everything was prepared and ready to be cooked. It can be a little intimidating to host that many people, especially when I hadn’t done it in a few years. Luckily, with the help of my family but mainly my Cuisinart food processor, everything went amazingly and well exceeded our expectations.
